This is what I would tell the hairdresser (in your position):

layers with straight-down bangs. Layer the bangs too, so they're not too thick.

It's similar to girls with side bangs, but a little bit more original.

CUT about 2 inches off and have them Layer it..maybe with soft wispy bangs. I am sure the hairdresser will give you a nice look. They have books in the salon so you can go through them also.
