Don't say "get another dog.." me and my dog have a special bond... I don't mind leaving my mom behind cant wait to seperate from her but the thought of leaving my old dog behind just makes me feel guilty inside..

My dog has been with me since I was young... essentially my dog has grew up with me through my life...

  1. im 17 also and gunna be going to college in fall '09.

i feel exactly like you do. i was away from my parents for a week this summer and i didnt miss them at all (i know that sounds horrible) but i really missed my dog.

i guess what im gunna do is take lots of pictures of her so i can always remember her while im gone. and hopefully ill be able to come back on some weekends and ill get to see her then.

    good luck!

  2. Ahh, I would DIE if I had to leave my baby at home! Take lots of pictures of your dog, take videos on your phone or camera. Some people don't understand peoples bonds with their dogs. Personally, I would rather stay home and be with my pup than go to college haha. Luckily my baby came with me when I moved :)

  3. im pretty sure the dorms dont allow pets so your going to have to visit him on holidays and stuff but i suggest ou make him stay with someone you know would take really care of him because ive been through that road your going right now with my dog

  4. You'll change your mind on how you feel about leaving mom behind as well.

You just have to do this.  Visit home a lot.

  5. skip college, what the heck!!! don't leave your dog!!! who needs college anyways! oh and i'm just kidding, for all you  serious people.

  6. you know when I left home... I did miss my family... but not near as much as I missed that dog. I missed that dog so much that it hurt. The people, I just kinda missed. I don't know why that was. Maybe because the dog didn't understand that I was coming back. Or maybe animals touch a primal part of us. Either way... you are not the only one:)

  7. take lots of pics with you,, or find a place where u can have pets and bring the dog with you

  8. You will miss your dog. Its an unfortunate part of growing up. Have your mom take pictures of your dog and send them  to you, if you guys have camera phones or digital cameras, itll be easy.

The plus side is, he/she will be SO excited when you come back to visit and you'll get the best greeting in the world!!

  9. Sweetheart, the fact that you say you are going to miss your dog tells me th bond ou share.  It's called separation anxiety, and it is quite common.  There's no cure for it, and trying to replace the bondyou share with any othe animal, especially a new one is not  productive at all, foreithe of you.  You are going to have to sit down with your firend, and try to explain as well as you can that you will have to be awayf for a while, but will come and see your furry friend as much and as often as you can.  There will be people that say that you and your dog don't talk ot each other, but you an i know they are wrong.  You might also want to have a talk with your school advisor, an find ways that yuo can reduce your own separation anxiety issue. Le m know how yu do; i know it's harad, and i have been thre too.  Good luck

  10. I wonder that too when I think about my pets I will have to leave.  You can't really do anything about it.  But I do have to say thats a bit weird that you don't care about leaving your mom! That would be a big one for me.  But I do understand.

  11. It's not odd at all.   I love my dog, and would miss him very much if I had to leave him.

  12. I know all about this... I missed my lil boy (my pomeranian) like crazy when I left my freshman year.. trust me, she will be so excited when you come home on breaks and everything. Just make sure you bring lots of pictures with you and have your mom keep you updated on her and all... and send your love to her. It'll be fine.. it's hard, but it works out! =)

*Funny thing is, I was cuddling with my pom earlier today and was thinking about when I leave and how I'm gonna miss him... and I just kept him close while I watched TV... spend time with her before you leave*

  13. well you will be coming home to visit now and then and it will be ok. you could get a room outside of the dorm and live there and have the dog with you some kids do that you know.

  14. It's not odd for you to feel this way.

A year ago I moved out on my own for the very first time, my pug came with me.  But I was so upset about leaving my parent's chihuahua.  Ever since we got him he slept with me at night, I was the one who took him to all of his vet visits...he was my little boy.

When all of my stuff was moved to my apartment and I went back to my parent's house I was all upset (crying) and my teenage sister was laughing at me.  My dad fussed at her and told her to be more sensitive that I'm going to miss all of them.  I told him that I was more upset about leaving Pardner (the chihuahua).  I think my parents took offense but they got over it and now Pardner sleeps with my parents.  Every time I go over to visit them I have to spend extra time with Pardner (he won't have it any other way).

So don't feel bad about the way you feel.  It just shows that you care.

  15. its not like your never going to see your dog ever again, your gonna be comming back for vacations and break and theyre for a long time.

  16. aww that's sweet
