I was driving home today and there was construction going on. They blocked traffic with cones all around us, only allowing us to go forward. It is ok to run the red light? I assumed it was ok since all the other roads were blocked preventing any cars from coming. So there was no point in waiting for the light.

  1. I'd a done the same.

  2. Legally you could still get a ticket. You can't even stop and go, so if a cop sees you, and wants to, he can give you a ticket. If they have a flagger(one of the construction people with a hand held stop sign), or a police officer directing traffic, you follow their instructions, and ignore the light.

  3. treat it as a cautious (4way???) stop anyway then proceed....if there's construction workers around they may need to take advantage of the green light THEIR way so just take the couple seconds it takes to stop and then go through....

they really should have someone there to direct traffic though...interesting question

  4. They should have turned it off if they wanted you to run it.

Do a stop and go next time and be safe and not risk a ticket.
