Ok to use old tennis racket?

Is it ok to use an old tennis racket as long as you change the strings and the frame looks good? I mean its metal, not like wood, and it's a prince. I like it, but are there any concerns I should look out for?

  1. Think about what you want most... what are you willing to sacrifice:

    Your money or your game?

A couple of dollars or better performance?

I'm not saying you should go out and buy a 300 dollar racket, but sometimes it is in the best interest of the player and his game to have decent equipment.

If you really want to keep your racket, though, you can use that one to for practices, and use a new racket for gaming and drilling.

  2. I think its ok to use an older racket but i think if you switched to a newer racket it would improve your game a lot.

  3. The short answer is, most likely yes. Depending on how old the frame is (25 years and newer) you should be fine. A lot of people are fans of old vintage racquets like the Prince original graphite, wilson prostaff 6.0, etc... The thing is though, while old. those frames were player frames (ie: top of the line for its time). For example driving a vintage 1960's chevy corvette would be great, whereas driving a 1960's ford pinto probably isn't. Same thing goes with racquets, if your racquet is a vintage  cheapo racquet, then really the strings you'd be putting on it is prolly worth more than the racquet.

Yes, racquet companies constantly "change technology" and sometimes its for better, more often than not, its for worse and its mostly just a ploy to keep people buying new racquets. If you can play with the frame, and it works for you, by all means go for it. A good rule of thumb is if you bring the frame in and the guy stringing doesn't make any snide comments like... uhhh ur really going to play with this?

  4. Do your self a favor and restring & re-grip the frame!  In addition, inspect that their are no cracks or distortions.

In my eyes, instead of re-doing the old...apply the cost to a new racquet.
