I never liked it - people who have their tongue pierced always fiddle with it and it's an annoying habit, plus it never looks good to prospective employers - its like having a tattoo in an obvious place... just not something for polite society.

Plus it has a high risk of infection and that is like going through he11* - I had one friend who had that problem and she regretted ever wanting the piercing.

Another friend of mine noted that it's just another thing to get food stuck in.  He got sick of his piercing within a year - it just got annoying & it's not something that people generally admire for aesthetic reasons...  it's got a bad reputation because people who get it usually get it for the kissing thing:

I've been told that it's nice for french kissing, but I never found it attractive in that way myself.

I don't think you should do it. It's really easy to get an infection from a tongue piercing. You'll probably regret it later, but the decision to do it or not is completely up to you.

i just got mine pierced saturday and i had wanted it for a long long long time and i begged and begged my mom (cuz im only 17) and she finally let me do it and i took it out the next day cuz i hated it....it looked really cool but i talked like an idiot and eating was sooooo weird....so REALLY THINK ABOUT IT.

well I had mine pierced when I was 18, until I was like 22...I got tired of it, and kind of out grew it....I didnt think it was still cool to have it pierced

It doesn't really hurt but you have to make sure you keep your mouth rinsed out with the mouthwash and it is hard to really eat for a couple of days and the swelling makes you sound funny but once it is healed it is ok.  The first barbell is harder to get off so it is best to go back to the place that did the piercing and have them change it but it is best to wait about 6 months before you do that so you are really healed.  The down side to it is that you will bite it while eating which does damage to your teeth and the balls can come unscrewed and you may swallow them.  Also you are tempted to play with it alot and most jobs won't hire you with it because when you talk it is noticable.

well first off wait till your 18 and then see if you still want it, i got it done at 18, i am 22 now and still have it done, never really took it out to let it close out, i forget about having it most of the time, it dont hurt too bad to get it done, but the swelling sucks!! so does the mouth wash after you drink the first couple days..... but if your 18 and you think you still want it go ahead... but just dont do it because "everyone has it"
