  1. Scribes were considered the intellectuals.

    They wrote everything down...

    Someone had to make use of the papyrus they made!

    The ancient Egyptians were what we might describe as very politically correct in many ways.

    For example they had no prejudices against colour and women were pretty much equal.

    The major class distinction lay between those who were educated and those who were not.

    Intellect was highly respected.

    The scribes were the backbone of the intellectual class and they were the masters of culture and creativity too.

    The word scribe comes from the latin scribere -

    e.g. scribere est agere = to write is to act - this is a very well known latin proverb


  2. they were writers of scripts .

    their importance can be seen in the statue of  THE SCRIBER .

    the ancients respected those who could write on the Papyrus , etc
