  2. You know what the best book I ever read was?  It's a collection of short stories, which I don't usually like, but this one was AMAZING.  It's called, "The Shell Collector."

It tells so much about humanity... the imperfections of people, the cruelty of life, but also of the beauty of life and of finding yourself.  You won't be disappointed.  The best one is "The Caretaker."  It's just so... real.

  3. Life and love? Two of the best books I've read are The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath and The Catcher In The Rye by JD Salinger. SInce this question is in Philosophy, have you read Sophie's World? It's a shame because now they've put it in a girly pink cover, but it's actually a serious introduction to philosophy and will make you think a lot, especially about the fragility of your own existence. Make sure you've got a lot of time for it though. I'm not sure if this fits in, really, but a recent favourite is The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas: no, it's not a children's book, necessarily; and no, I can't tell you what it's about, but I would highly recommend it. It's quite a sad book. I'm really interested to see what other people say, I need some new books too

  4. Pillars of the Earth

  5. try a classic tale of true love and high adventure

    The Princess Bride =]

  6. Read the Lord of the Rings starting with The Hobbit. It is not only good reading but it is must for the world we live in. After that try some heavy stuff Like Ayn Rand, Bill Buckley, Campbell, etc.

  7. The Magus, John Fowles

I Know This Much Is True, Wally Lamb

Oh, and Interview with a Vampire, Anne Rice.  I can't say much for the rest of the series, but this first book is a classic.

  8. It sounds like you're looking for "War and Peace".

  9. One of the best books I've ever read-don't know if it's really along these lines but The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver
