Okay, I'm confused, what exactly is 'Broadway'?

Because until recently, I thought it was a place in New York, but then my friends laughed at me and they're like "No, it's a word for something that's like live".

Someone please illiterate.

  1. it's a street in new york.  like where times sqaure is, where the ball drops?

    right there.  and alot of theatres are on it.  and that's where broadway shows are performed.

    i've never heard of it being a synonym for "live".

Laugh right back at your friends.  Broadway is a street in New York where a lot of the big shows are performed.  They may have some other usage for the word, but you are not loosing your mind.  To me, it has the connotation of "making it big."  I wouldn't trust anyone who uses "like" as an adjective(?).  

    "Illiterate" means to be ignorant or unknowledgeable in a field such as reading, writing, etc.  Perhaps you meant elaborate?

    if its a "broadway play/musical", then that means its been preformed on Broadway which is a street in New York
