Question:

Okay, I know this is early, but I have a question about a holiday tip, maybe you can help?

I have a well known housecleaning company come and clean my home every Friday.

They come in teams of two, but are a different team every week, they rotate between several.

My question is how do I tip them for the Holidays?

I usually just leave a weekly check on my kitchen counter when they come, and thought about the last time they come before the Holidays, leaving them a tip along side my check.

The problem is how do I make sure that all of them get part of the tip, and not just the two people that come that particular week?

It wouldn't be fair to just tip those two and not the rest when they have been cleaning my home all year too, so am lost as to how to handle this.

I am also not sure just how much of a tip I should give, since there must be it least five or six teams of people.

Any suggestions?

  1. If you have different people cleaning your house every week, then you don't owe them a tip for the holidays.  I suggest that you bake or buy cookies or cupcakes and take them to the 'home office' or leave a few each time the cleaners come for consumption where they work.  If you don't know who is doing the cleaning every week, call and ask the company rep ... they should tell you who cleans when, and you can leave goodies when you have different people until they've all gotten goodies.

  2. If you wish to leave a tip and you trust the company, send it to the company along with a letter explaining that you want the money to be evenly distributed to those team members that have worked on our home within a certain period.

A better way to tip, IMO, is to start tipping every week.  That way, you can be sure the tips are going to the people who actually cleaned your home.

  3. I would call the company and ask the manager how to handle this matter.  I have regular housekeepers, and I gift them the equivilent of a day's cleaning fee.
