So my computer used to be windows 98 but then I installed windows XP onto it and have had it for over a year. But when I installed it my computer kept windows 98 and I have had problems with low memory ever since. So my question is how do you delete the windows 98 without bothering windows XP? Somebody told me there was a way but it was tricky but would clear up a lot of memory. Thanks!

  1. so did you dual boot between windows 98 and XP. if so delete windows 98 partition and then when u boot into XP do:

Right click 'My Computer' - properties - Advanced - 'Startup and Recovery' -Settings ...

change it so that it wont ask u at boot to pick an operating system. it will just boot right into xp.

  2. start>my computer - right click C: left click properties, click disk cleanup - you should now see windows 98

  3. google it duh

  4. you could reformat your whole cpu. this would delete everything so i dont think thats what you want.

  5. Your memory is your RAM (random access memory). The amount of operating systems that you have on your computer has no effect on your RAM as you are only using one OS at a time.

The best solution is to add another stick of RAM. RAM is dirt cheap these days.

Use the free Crucial Memory Advisor™ Tool

to find out what you need. Then shop around for the best price.

  6. ok it depends on how u downloaded it and if its really on there cuz if its xp then it should not have 98 so its probly not downloaded right and u have to use the cd to download it

  7. My best guess would be to upgrade  your hardware components but it would cost so much money you would be better off buying a brand new computer and it would be very hard to get one with XP installed now that Vista has been around.
