  1. The solution on the page linked is wrong.

    They used the formula for the perimeter instead of the area.

    Area = W × L

    Let x = twice the width of the frame (both sides)

    (23 - x) (21 - x) = 292

    483 - 44x + x² = 292

    x² - 44x + 191 = 0

    2x = 44 ± sqrt(44² - 4×191)

    2x = 44 ± sqrt(1172)

    2x = 44 ± 34.234

    x = 22 ± 17.117

    + root is too big

    - root is 4.883 = x

    Width of frame is 2.4415 = x/2

    21 - 4.883 = 16.117

    23 - 4.883 = 18.117

    16.117 × 18.117 = 291.99

    Done.
