  1. just don't feed it..

it'll become habitualized to being fed and will come back again and again and a run-in will be inevitable

  2. Feeding wild raccoons can be a highly rewarding experience indeed. You can watch raccoons for hours on end and never tire of their antics. But feeding wild animals is something you should take care to do properly, to avoid nasty situations later on.

Raccoons will eat just about anything. Although this statement is generally true, raccoons do have definite preferences. Generally speaking, they like peanuts, sweets, fruits, bread, peanut butter, and especially cat and dog food. Like feeding humans, though, don't overload them with treats,  make those for special occasions, and leave the healthier stuff for most of the time.

Don't ever feed raccoons by hand!

  3. They eat d**n near everything. They are omnivores with a varied diet

  4. Don't feed it period! This is a wild animal that knows to catch and kill its own food. It is fine on its own and they aren't made to eat people food and junk. By you continuously feeding it, it will become dependent on you and no longer know how to supply its own food. DON'T DO IT.

  5. Deer corn will keep him coming.

A raccoon will eat just about anything. They eat bird feed, shelled corn, cattle feed, dog food, cat food, etc. The only thing I have seen them attempt to eat and not do it was a bag of potatoes. They bit nearly everyone in the bag at our camp but just couldn't eat them.

In the wild they feed on nuts, berries, fruits, frogs, mussels, insects, grains, etc. Anything they can grab or catch I guess you could say. They like to forge along the water's edge and when the wild plums are in season they hit the plum thickets out front on a regular basis.

Feed them if you wish. They will return to eat again but if you quit feeding them they will stop when the food stops. They are not dumb. I had several coming to eat my bird feed one winter so I put out deer corn just for them and saw as many as 8 at a time eating after dark. When I stopped putting out the corn they stopped showing up. Its just like when the find a tree full of nuts or plums. They show up as long as the dinner table is set but when its gone they move on.

  6. For your purposes, perhaps it will help to say they eat any food they can get out of a trash can, food left out for the dog or cat, food grown in the garden, and a lot of other stuff.

I've watched them coming out of the park at night, looking both ways before they cross the street, and heading for the houses to see what they can find.
