Which one of you left your SUV running on Mars?

Since Mars is experiencing the same "global warming" effects that the Earth is (melting ice caps...etc), and since I am constantly being told that my SUV is causing global warming. I would like to know which one of you left your SUV running on Mars.

  1. ice caps aren't melting on mars - one mars ice cap is sublimating

  2. You caught me.I swear it was only on the short trips to the Wa-Wa's.Cus short trips are bad on the exhaust systems.Man is my dad gonna be mad. Please don't say anything!!!Dang there must be a lot of people driving Ford Explorers(4.00 nice size).A 4x4 is a real must on Mars. All that nasty terrain you know. Why do you thing there are dust storms. That's all the off road traveling you have to do.It tears up the dirt.

  3. Like Earth, Mars has seasons that cause its polar caps to wax and wane. "It's late spring at the south pole of Mars," says planetary scientist Dave Smith of the Goddard Space Flight Center. "The polar cap is receding because the springtime sun is shining on it."

"Remember, though," adds Smith, "there are two polar caps on Mars--north and south. While the south polar cap is vaporizing the north polar cap is growing. It's a balancing act.

Mars is warming for entirely different reasons than the Earth - namely dust storms darkening its surface:

  4. So that is where it is!  I forgot after last weekend.

  5. Too proud dumb or vain to admit that you may contribute to the problems of everyone?  Your day will come............quicker the better.

  6. Is it possible to give this question a "Thumbs Down".

Do you think that people who use the “SUV’s on Mars” argument will never have the scientific background to understand that warming on another planet would be an interesting coincidence, but it would not necessarily have the same cause? I think that it is funny that global warming deniers often point to climate change on other planets to deny that global warming is happening on this one.

It is thought that these changes on Mars are small and regional. The changes are related to 1) known irregularities in the orbit and rotation of Mars, which results in 2) large scale dust storms that are possible because of Mars’ thin atmosphere.

I also enjoyed the National Geographic article concerning Global Warming on Mars. Especially relevant are the part that says,

[quote]“Habibullo Abdussamatov, head of space research at St. Petersburg's Pulkovo Astronomical Observatory in Russia, … believes that changes in the sun's heat output can account for almost all the climate changes we see on both planets. … Abdussamatov's work, however, has not been well received by other climate scientists. 'His views are completely at odds with the mainstream scientific opinion,' said Colin Wilson, a planetary physicist at England's Oxford University. … Amato Evan, a climate scientist at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, added that 'the idea just isn't supported by the theory or by the observations.' The conventional theory is that climate changes on Mars can be explained primarily by small alterations in the planet's orbit and tilt, not by changes in the sun." [end quote]

All planets have a wobble in their orbit; this wobble on Earth is known as Milankovitch cycles, which could be responsible for the cycle of glacial and interglacial periods of this current ice age.

  7. one of the George Bush guys...are you kidding me....HAHAHAHAHAHA

    Get over yourself!

  8. It is probably one from Pluto, because contrary to what you always hear on the web, Pluto is cooling, not warming.

  9. Uh, yeah...that article is from Feb 2007.  Here is the real reason National Geographic published in April 2007:

    Nice try.

    Next time check your facts.
