  1. ummm 187 points is NOT a bunch of points

    what r they good 4?

the same thing that war is good for - absolutely nothin

  2. Yahoo!Answers points?  Good for asking questions; that's about it.

If you click on the points number you have, you'll get a list of things you can do to gain or lose points.  If you click on your level number, you can see what benefits you get when you have a certain amount of points.

  3. you can make a shirt with your avatar and number of points, wear it, and impress women at parties.

    right!!!

they are essentially good for asking questions, not caring about it when you get a violation, and for moving up "levels" on YA.

each question you ask costs five points, but you can get three back by picking a "best answer" yourself.

each violation you receive for whatever reason (and it doesn't have to be a good one, trust me) costs you points. and appealing the violation and losing can cost you more points. this is how i like to spend most of my points - sending really sarcastic responses to their violation notices and appeals. but be careful, too many and they'll suspend your main account and you'll have to sign up for a new one and start all over... getting more points again. vicious cycle.

finally, the more of them you have, the higher level you can achieve within YA. higher level users can "do" more than lower level users - ask more questions, answer more questions each day, send more messages each day, etc. there's a table that shows what you can and can't do at each level. this info you can use to prove your mastery of the geekdom that is YA.
