My dad (age 43) wants to get in shape. He wants me to help him. I'm a cheerleader for my school, so I have a workout routine that I do everyday.

He can't do that though, because he's not in shape. What's a workout routine I can get him to do?

He does about 25 crunches everyday.

and I can't get him to do any pushups. He just wont do them...

I offered to let him go jogging with me everyday, but he didn't think he could do that either.

He did say that he needed to clean off the weight bench.

I really want him to get healthy ( he's a bit overweight ).

Maybe I could get him to do side crunches along with his 25 regular ones, even though he struggles to get to 25.

What are some other exercises he might be able to do?

thanks.

  1. Try to get him at least walking to start. If he says he can't do that, he shouldn't be doing the weights or any of the other stuff either. Crunches and weight training are great, and important to do, but they won't get him in shape. He needs to do cardio to lose the weight and get his heart in better shape. If he starts out with brisk walking, he can work his way up to biking or maybe running with you eventually. Swimming is a great full body and cardio workout, if he has access to do it, and any fast moving sport is likely to be good for him if he's that out of shape. If you can find something he finds fun and which will get his heartrate up into the 120-160 beats per minute range, he might find it easier to get into healthy exercising.

  2. Regardless of weight, if he's in that bad a shape, he needs to start eating less and walking. That's it. If he's seriously out of shape he will be extremely accident prone, even jogging, or doing pushups.

  3. The best and most effective way to loose weight is to eat less. But you still need to eat so try to give up on the most fattening foods, particularly breads, pastries, cakes and sweetened or alcholic drinks. Replace these with fruits and vegetables with lean meat or fish and water. Avoid fast-foods that are greasy or starchy, and also certain milk products like cheese, and cream that are rich in fats.

Walking is about the only kind of exercise needed and that should not be regarded as useful for weight reduction, but more as a means of keeping reasonably fit.

  4. well he has to lose weight that is the first thing.. get him to do brisk walking for 40 mins per day......his first priorty is losing the wieght.. he will then build up his rate heart if he does it briskly and sticks to it....

u should get him a weight set, or a membership to a gym so he can do a full/totaly body workout to get more muscle tone and tighten up..

he can lift weights, light weights.. he can do that... and he needs to work the whole body. so he will be doing that 4 times a week....

you shoudl also limit his carbs.. reduce them... and get him eating more protien..... and only enough carbs for energy.....

  5. The exercises for ankles and shanks are meant to prevent injuries, offer a better coordination of the ankles and shanks, and help you lose weight. These exercises may be efficient for people who suffer from flat foot, injuries, or other deficiencies of the feet.

    Exercise #1:

Stand with your hands on your hips and lift yourself on your toes for twenty-five times.

    Exercise #2:

Stand with your legs stretched and flex your ankles for twenty-five times. I read about this at http://www.projectweightloss.com.

  6. my dads 43 yrs old too and he's about 185 pounds. i look at him as in average weight.

he goes on the tredmill every morning

he plays outside with us, soccer, football, basketball etc

he has high cholesterol so he watches what he eats and yea.

tell him to eat healthy foods and do some running or atleast get active.

bcuz whenever my dad is fisomething in the backyard (could be anything) he sweats atleast a bucket-load lol.

  7. Your father should start out walking every day but gradually start jogging.  Jogging/running is one of the quickest and easiest ways to get in shape and lose weight.  Also he should eat more fish, chicken, salads, vegetables and fruit.  Drink at least 8 glasses of water a day, alot of guys don't drink much water.  Running is the best to lose weight.
