I play acoustic stuff. I have a 30 song or so set list, but still need more. Give me any ideas. What would you like to hear done acoustic if you were at a bar?

  2. I'd say it all depends on the bar and the crowd.

If your crowd tends to be a bit older (late 40s-50s soccer Moms and Dad having fun on the weekend while kids are at the sitter's) then I'd consider these:

Everly Brothers "All I Have to Do is Dream"

    Elvis Presley "Love me Tender"

Animals "House of the Rising Sun"

Roy Orbison "Oh, Pretty Woman" (I'll bet you could make a nice flamenco-ish arrangement for this as a ballad...)

Beatles "Help!","Yesterday","Rocky Racoon" (if you want a more daring pick..)

The Vogues "Five O'Clock World" (younger people might know this from Drew Carey as well)

Simon and Garfunkel "Homeward Bound","Mrs. Robinson"

If they're a little younger or hipper Moms and Dads (30s-early 40s), try:

    Rod Stewart "Maggie May"

    Rolling Stones "Angie"

    Steve Miller Band "The Joker"

Queen "Bohemian Rhapsody" (If you have the b**ls to risk someone telling you you're "ruining" it, this is one the whole crowd could potentially sing..especially if you can get the regulars into a routine where you have half the bar doing "I'm just a poor boy nobody loves me..." and the other singing "He's just a poor boy from a poor family...")

    Eagles "Hotel California"

Garth Brooks "Friends in Low Places" (if you get any country fans at all, this would be HUGE in a bar as would...)

    Jimmy Buffett "Margaritaville"

If your crowd is late 20s-early 30s, go heavy on the 80s/90s, maybe a current hit or two:

Queen "Crazy Little Thing Called Love"

    John Mayer "Daughters"

The Police "Every Breath You Take"

    U2 "With or Without You"

    R.E.M. "Losing my Religion"

Mr. Big "To Be With You" (this has late-night drunken singalong potential...)

    Four Non Blondes "What's Up?"

    Oasis "Wonderwall"

Train "Drops of Jupiter (Tell Me)"

    Norah Jones "Don't Know Why"

Now here's a list of tunes that are either not terribly mainstream but have mainstream appeal..or songs that are outside of the bar norm that you might be able to claim as your own. Again, you know your audience best:

Julie London "Cry Me a River"

Jimmie Rodgers "Kisses Sweeter than Wine"

    World Party "She's the One"

John Lennon arrangement "Stand by Me"

Bread "It Don't Matter to Me"

Bee Gees (pre-disco) "How Can You mend a Broken Heart?"

    Neil Young "Heart of Gold"

    Nick Drake "Which Will"

Lou Reed "Walk on the Wild Side" (if the crowd's really blue-collar I wouldn't try this one..)

    Weezer "Island in the Sun"

Violent Femmes "Blister in the Sun","Kiss Off"

    The Band "The Weight"

    Radiohead "High and Dry"

    David Bowie "Space Oddity"

  4. Try playing Raining Blood acoustic.  I would love to hear that!

Come on you can pull it off!  I'll even do backing vocals for you!
