  1. Look up in the back of the dictionary to find what your name means. Almost all names signify something, aside from being a reference to a Saint (you can use your saint's name too). Then explain the meaning and identify yourself with it, or explain how you are its antithesis.

My own name, Roger, means "valiant sword."

I could start off, "My name is Roger, and Roger means 'valiant sword.' It suggests that I am a fearless warrior, brave, intrepid, fierce, and ready for slashing physical action. If you look at me, however, you will see that I am not like this. I am a thin, mildly nerdy looking fellow with an unhappy smile and a shy, worried look. Approached by a swashbuckling pirate, I would see where I could hide. Valiant sword? Why did my parents name me "valiant sword"? Isn't there a name that mean 'timid librarian'?"

On the other hand, you might find out who your saint is in the Christian calendar. If your name is Mary or Belinda or Elizabeth you have a saint whose biography you can look up on line. You can then write a paragraph, essay, or book showing what qualities you share with Mary Magdalene, Belinda whoever, or Saint Elizabeth.

  2. Well, you need to start with research, hun. Thesis statements are proofs of concept, so to speak, and right now, aside from you knowing your name, it sounds like you don't know anything!

Get your information and then make your conclusions and then work from there.
