big hub hole for 45-RPM discs (even though small-shaft players can be adapted for those)?

  1. I think it had something to do with making them work reliably in the old mechanical Jukeboxes.  It gave the machine a bigger target to get the spindle through the hole.


  2. They were meant for jukeboxes.  Early machines had trouble playing the records with the small hole.
