  1. With my first pregnancy (twins), I was not able to save or donate the cord blood, as they will not do this for twins.  I am 32 weeks with a singleton now, and considering donating rather than saving the baby's cord blood.  My friend's husband suffered from leukemia, and was saved by a cord blood donation, so I am a strong believer in donating!

  2. Private banking is very expensive.  I encourage you to donate to the public bank if you choose not to privatly bank.  You can find that info with the National Marrow Donors Program at http://www.marrow.org if you are in the US.  If you are in a different country, search for your country's marrow program or email me to help you find it.

I have just answered several qs about cord blood if you want to look at those for some info.  Also this site will allow you to sign up for a webcast that will give info.  The site is a stem cell (the medically accurate term for a bone marrow transplant, which is how cord blood is currently used) transplant patient support site.

  3. I did not but would have liked too but it is costly.

I did some research and decided against it.  It is typically recommended for families that have a history of certain diseases.

I wanted to donate it but our hospital does not participate in donation programs :(
