  1. that sounds neat.

there's a game you can play with long bamboo poles. one person holding a pole in each hand horizontal to the floor at each end. Smack the poles simultaneously on the floor and  against each other. It has a rhythm you can speed up slow down or do it music. Your guests can take turns  jumping between the poles as they open and close.

if you can't roast a pig you can serve pork bar b que. fresh or toasted coconut, fruits, they eat a lot of spam sushi in Hawaii.

Have it outdoors. Seat your guests on the grass, use rolls of white paper for your table, you can decorate with tiki lamps just don't light them.

Hula skirts can be bought very inexpensively along with flower lais or flowers for the guests to wear in their hair. Then if you can add a water game and bring a dancer to teach hula, your party will be complete.

  2. Go to www.orientaltradingcompany.com for the decor.

Every luau I have been to has had some kid of teriyaki bbq chicken, Korean short ribs and some form of Kahlua pig.  You can find recipes for these at www.foodtv.com.  For sides steamed rice is popular and some kind of macaroni-potato salad.

Then you should mix up a fun tropical fruit punch with floating fruit in it, and serve with little umbrellas.  If you want to go crazy make blended virgin pina-colas and strawberry daiquiri's.

    Have fun!

  3. You have to roast a pig. Grass skirts, hula dancers, pineapples, coconuts. I hope it's sunny! Just think Hawaii.

  4. funn!!

first get some really cute hawaiian invatations and tell everyone to dresss up in a hawaii/luau theme.

then decorate your house/backyard w/ blowup palm trees, signs, lights flowers, etc.

then have games, competitions, hula dancing contests where winners get leis

    have fun!!

  5. Luau, beach Hawaii: Orientaltrading has the coolest decorations and favors for this theme and the cutest tropical invitation in the bottle. Give your guests leis as they come in. Play Limbo, Hula hoop, and have a few grass skirts and everyone (including the guys) have to give hulaing a try. Again if you have room to do this at home or you can rent a small room.  Play twister.  Have a tropical pinata for sure.

Have guests were hawaii shirts.  Games:  http://www.alohafriendsluau.com/games.ht...

    Food:

    goldfish crackers

    macadamia nuts

Clear Koolaid (avoid stains if spilled) served in  coconut cuts sold at Oriental trading.

fruit tray with cut up fruit on a hawaii theme plate (dollar store).

    shish kabobs.

The DollarTree dollar store chain has just come out with a whole huge line of luah party decorations, favors, tableware etc.

  6. Can you cook??  If yes, there are some great recipes online.

Kalua pig (basically roasted, pulled pork) easy and tasty

haupia - kind of like a coconut pudding

mac salad (No potato) (simple, mac noodles, egg, shredded carrots and mayo - salt & pepper to taste)

    *asian influences would add -

banana lumpia - kids LOVE, easy to make

mochiko chicken - easy recipe, finger type food

furikake chicken - easy recipe, finger type food

maybe teriyaki chicken - can you find teriyaki sauce?  If not, there are fairly simple recipes online.

ALWAYS steamed white rice (not long grain, medium grain, and it's usually called sticky rice)

fruit punch (Malolo Syrup is the best!)

    water

there's all kinds of great sites online you can look for that have good Hawaiian music (or if your computer is awesome, find a Hawaii radio station that is broadcast online, like KCCN), and of course any party supply store will carry the raffia skirts, coconut shell bra, and various items mainlanders like and think of when they hear "luau".

    hope this helps ...

edited "menu" above, made more kid friendly ... check out www.foodtv.com or just search hawaiian food recipes ... I know Hawaiian Electric Kitchen has plenty recipes - easy too.
