  1. If your car was broken into (with broken window, etc.) then you should call the police and make a police report.  But often they are not interested in small crimes (at least in most major cities).

And you say you think you know who it was.  From the cop's point of view he could be your friend (ex-friend) that was in the car (left a print) and you are trying to frame him.

    Good Luck...

  2. You can ask them to take fingerprints, but the overall decision is based on their discretion, remember you do not have any legal rights to ensure it happens.

You should report the person suspect if you know who it is, infact tell the Police what, and everything that you do know, and suspect relating to the case.

  3. You can ask them to do anything. Will they do it? probably not.

You can go to the police station and swear out a warrant for the person, you THINK broke into your car. If you do that the police are obligated to arrest them and process them. That is the only way you can get the cops to fingerprint anyone other than your minor children. If you do that you better have some pretty good proof (other than just fingerprints) or you may get sued.

  4. Yes you can ask a police officer to dust for prints but no you cannot ask the police to fingerprint someone..........

  5. If you filed a police report then the officers would have determined the need for fingerprint processing. If you have a suspect in mind, this information should be provided to the officer or detective handling the case. They have the option of asking the suspect for elimination prints to "eliminate" that person from suspicion or even identify that person as leaving prints on your car. This person's prints could also be on file already. This is of course could only work if prints were recovered from your car. They also have the option of searching the prints in one of the various fingerprint databases. Your first step is to file a report as soon as possible. Hopefully you have not left your car exposed to bright sun, rain or had it washed.
