Question

What to expect when cited with a 488 PC a petty theft in California, what should you expect? Going to a probation officer tomorrow.

For a 15 year old. And for your 1st offense. Do they decide then and there what they are going to do? Because I have to write this essay, about what was going through my head at the time, what lead me to this point ect. And don't they need time to read that before making the decision? Also what do you think they will make me do? Community service? Probation? Jail???? Jail seems kinda harsh for a first offense. But would they send me there?? My dad said they might for 90 days, but I think he told me that so I would start writing my essay. But I just wanted to make sure. How much levrage is the essay? Will they interigate me? I am not going to say that I didn't do it and I don't lie. But I just wanted to know if they do. I am fully prepared to answer every question to the fullest truth. If anyone could help me with this that would be great! No rude comments please! Thank you!

They will really only give you probation for petty theft in California with minor community service obligations. They usually have the 2 strike thing going with minors in the state. You can commit a crime once but if you commit it again, the penalties escalate quickly. Jail wouldn't be a first time. Petty theft is something worth under $60. You would probably just pay a fine, do some community service, probation, and that's about it. You'll be fine.

Hey Kid. If you truly care and realize you messed up, you'll get probation. You'll probably have to do some community service with a small fine. The most important thing you need to worry about at this time is how this mess up will affect you once you turn 18 years old. Petty theft with a prior is a felony in California. 666PC. Make sure the judge will seal the record once you turn 18 years old if you complete all the terms of your probation. Don't steal. Don't mess up!! Stay in School!!!!!
