Okay i have to go to a show this weekend i need advice on how to keep myself calm any help plz.?

it is a huge show and it is my horses 1 big show but second all together

  1. Try to think that no one is there,like you're in the arena by yourself.Just breath deeply close you eyes and count to 10.I hope this helps you out and good luck on your show!Hope you come in first!

    NO matter how many are there !

    ride the same as before if not better I hope !

    your competing to do your best and do just that !

  3. Sounds like you got a lot of anxiety...

    and there is no way to take the nerves or fear out of the equation... Unless you take a tranquilizer... but then you won't be bringing your "A+ GAME" with you.

    I can't help you with the horse show. I don't ride or jump them.

    ...but I can help you with the mental aspect.



    I used to take up theater and Boxing and I'll tell ya I was surprised how well I didn't handle pressure.  

    I have forgotten my lines that I had memorized & rehearsed perfectly several times. I have been knocked down by an uppercut in front of a bunch of people who are jeering and gocking at me... and all because I let nerves get the best of me.

    The next time out was even worse because of what happened to me before but I had a great director and a great coach and I'll share with you what they taught me about staying calm.

    It's Wednesday and you just have to practice or whatever it is that you do with that animal to get thru the week. Your on your own there.

    Like I said, I don't show horses.My mental tips are for you to use the day before and the day of the event. That is when your nerves will be at their worst.

    1)Prepare

    Make sure you got everything that you need and in order the night before. You don't want to be running around playing catch up to get there on time because it took you 30 mins to find your saddle or helmet or something stupid. (keep the blood pressure down)

    2) Go to bed early or on time.

    The sleep you get before midnight is more important than the sleep you get after midnight. This will help you both physically and MENTALLY.

    (Do not count on sleep during the long road trip... If there is one.)

    Note: It's Ok to sleep during the trip but the rest you get on a truck or car or bus is not a good substitute for the rest you will get from a bed... It is ultra important! ...and dont take a sleeping aid unless you already regularly take one.

    3) Visualize

    When you have some free time and you are waiting for your turn, or to sign in, or what ever you guys do at these events.

    Go over in your mind mentally what you are going to do when its show time. See yourself doing it as planned.

    Even imagine some things that might go wrong. Yes thats right! Imagine the mistakes you or your horse might make...

    but also imagine yourself reacting and correcting the situation quickly.

    This will not jar your confidence! It will help you feel prepared for anything.

    but don't dwell on the bad scenarios... Make the last vision you play out on your head a winning one.



    4) Don't let anyone agitate you!

    Not the night before, the morning of, or right before the event. Especially before the show starts... it could be one of your friends, a boyfriend, a know it all father... or a drunk cousin.

    Who ever it may be, just quickly cut them off.  If they start to get under your skin, get them the h**l away from you.

    Note: It's Ok to talk and socialize just keep the conversation simple. You don't care if your friend thinks her boyfriend might be cheating on her. You have a horse to jump.

    and it's Ok if the competition bugs you because they are gonna loose anyways.



    4) When at the event and waiting for your turn...

    Maybe you start right away... May be you wait an hour or two.

    I don't know how these jump shows work or how many contestants show up.

    I usually had to wait 2 hours or more after weigh-ins before it was time for my bout.  

    Staying calm is gonna be tough if this is the case.

    Don't worry its getting closer for you to do your thing. This is natural.

    Just chill out, sit down, close your eyes even try to catch a little 5 min nap. Although believe me you probably won't nap... and that's perfectly OK... there is nothing wrong with you. You are supposed to be excited and nervouse.



    5) Right before your entrance...

    Big crowd everybody's watching... Your nerves are kicked in full swing by now...

    Guess what? The long wait was the worse part and you may be feeling ok by now... or you might feel worse. Maybe it is starting to wearing on you. You might feel fatigued or your might be yawning few times or blinking alot. You could even be a little short on breath... Maybe you notice your hand is shaking a little.

    It's all natural and It's not a problem.

    Right before you start take a deep breath... and know that relief is right around the corner.

    Relief doesn't come after your turn is over or after you finish.

    It comes the moment you start doing your thing. All those  nerves, the fatigue, the excessive blinking.... It all stops! Your energy is back, your eyse are focused on the jump, your hands are still, your breathing back to normal cause your mind is on one thing.

    It's focused on what you have been practicing for all week or month or year or however long it take to do what ever it is you do on these animals.

    None of this pertains to you... just take the tranquilizer
