  1. A lot of the money does not go to the foreign government, but is your own travel expenses, visas, extra paperwork fees, etc. that come with international adoption. The "program development fee" that goes to the foreign country is to help fund the institutions that care for the children, your own child included.  Remember, these countries have some significant poverty if they are allowing their children to be adopted internationally.  The institutions need funds to care for the children.

  2. I totally agree that trying to adopt a foreign child when there are PLENTY of deserving children right here in the US is kind of misguided...  And, truly, if you are a parent who has no other alternative than to adopt, the money doesn't even matter.  If it does, you should reconsider having kids.

  3. Adopting a child is expensive... period. Adopting here in the US is expensive. Even having a child yourself will be expensive... that's life!

  4. Sure, but then there are thousands of children right here in america that are in foster care limbo that no one will adopt, that's selfish.  Everyone wants an exotic child that they can show off, so the ones that need help right here (I suppose you could call them the 'cheap' ones) get overlooked.  If you want to adopt and can't fathom paying all that money for a child, you probably shouldn't be adopting in the first place because kids only get more expensive when you have them.

  5. hahaha .. great question.. i agree!

  6. It is a bad situation that you have to pay so much money to adopt a baby in any case.  But in other countries, adoption is a great source of money making...it has become like that in the United States, except in our country individuals in the agencies and lawyers are the ones making the money...not the government.

  7. It's supposed to be for thing like the child visa out of the country and your background check etc. but as was recently high-lighted in Guatemala adoption is often just used as another get rich quick scheme by gangs. It used to be drugs but now it's traffiking kidnapped children to unsuspecting and loving parents in America.

  8. You have formed an opinion on something that you have no knowledge of.

You do know, for example, that adoption a baby form your own country is also extremely expensive, don't you?  What's your theory on that?

  9. because money makes the world go round. that child has been fed, housed, clothed and given medical attention- we hope. all that costs money. orphanages in underdeveloped countries use adoption fees to continue to care for other orphans. not a difficult concept.

  10. You have to pay when you adopt a baby from the USA too, it makes no difference where the baby is from you always have to pay a fee of some sort.

  11. I watched a TV program on international adoption that brought to light the fact that part of an international adoption "fee" is actually to pay kickbacks and bribes to high ranking goverment officials.......
