So im going in to year 11 now.

Just did two exams early science and maths.

I got maths at an A grade, and i passed functional skills.

I got B's in my unit 2 science exam.

My unit one doesn't seem to be present, on the paper.

I completed all of the unit 3 skills and can do tasks, amidatlly they were late done because i took a lead in the school show and on the challenge the rest of the class did it, i was rehearsing.

I asked when i would do it and they said oh next challenge day.

We never had another one so i was made to do it when the rest of the class did the NEXT piece of coursework, so i was also late on that.

I did that on the last day of term.

My best friend did this also and has marks.

I do not.

It says No Result on my exam sheet next to Coursework.

WHY?

I have an E and im an A grade student.

Its not even though it was unmarkable because it would be a U not a 'No Result'

Im so upset.

Could anybody explain what might have gone wrong?

  1. It sounds like your coursework didn't get a mark. If you did it at the time that your school set aside for you to do it then they should have had time to submit it. This would seem to be confirmed if another candidate who did the same exercises at the same time was awarded marks.

The only way to be sure what happened though is to query it with the school - both the missing unit 1 mark and the missing coursework mark. They should be able to explain what happened, or if they can't they can query it with the board. There is likely to be staff in the school around results time, but not necessarily for long - so I'd get asking quickly rather than having to wait until the beginning of next term.

  2. It is just possible that you are listed as no result because of a thing called"time barring", this involves a candidates papers not being marked as a result of a late submission, that was not agreed with the tutor, under some circumstances this may involve a resit after a specific period of time, or even the possibility of exclusion, from the exam in question, completely, in some professions  this is quite common, particularly in  accountancy, where a candidate must pass the exams in question within a given time frame, or be excluded from the exams altogether, this is done to ensure candidates are skilled and determined enough people,  to do the work in question, and meet certain deadlines as a matter of course, the point is that some people are never going to make this limit, because of the nature of the character they have,( i.e. lazy or disorganised ),  and the profession does not want these people to be part of the body of workers in the industry, it lowers standards and this then lowers wages and respect for the profession.

This is unlikely to be the result of the time barring at your level, that may just be a way of telling candidates that the exam is considered important and certain standards of behaviour are not acceptable, i.e. the attitude of indifference to the exam dates, or work submissions, it may be a salutory lesson, in the real world, you can not let people down this way, the fact that you were doing something else, is no excuse, these exams are work, and are important , and nobody should have to wait on your pleasure, because your life is disorganised...you have received a "warning shot", across the bows, as a sailor would say....

Ask for an adjudication on the exams in question, and appeal the failure to mark this as a pass grade , but also check your regulations in future, they will warn of this sort of thing, prior to commencing any task, remember that the rules must be followed they are not an optional thing, you are being asked to meet certain standards of work and behaviour, BOTH of these things, are what are being examined, a degree course shows, not only a candidates ability to do the work, but their ability to do the needed tasks in general, it is not just an examination of their knowledge, but also one of character, in life, an employer looks not at the degree gained, but the example of a persons ability to follow a path that leads to the completion of a project over a period of time, they must show determination, planning, and resolve, to achieve this aim, if that is missing, then there will be questions that are unresolved, in the work place, and often it is the candidate that can demonstrate the ability to perform, under the worst circumstances that gets the job, not the one with the best degree.

Often in life, degree holders are not employed in the sphere they qualify in ever again, ( more than 2/3rds of degree holders do not work in the areas they actually studied ! ), it is really the evidence of the character that sways an employers opinions, you have not demonstrated enough planning , or foresight to complete your course of study, or to acknowledge that you must treat this as a matter of some importance, and prioritise or organise your time a little better, learning this, at an early age, may be of some personal benefit, to you, but check out the regulations and ask for a resit,( as the results of not marking are NOT listed as being part of the results ), an employer sees only the level that is achieved, that  is listed, so if you resit, the result of that resit is the result that will show on paper, nothing else,

Next time, learn the rules beforehand, and stick to them, even at school, you should be aware of the syllabus as well as the circumstances you are to be graded under, if you are to launch your life into the areas you are interested in, just like the movie stars of tommorrow, these people are pushing themselves to be famous, they are doing the work needed, knocking on doors, going to auditions, learning their solo parts, they will be successful, because they pursue fame relentlessly, and tirelessly, they do not wait around to be discovered in a chip shop, they hustle and work, and plan, and they are already out there now, they get what they want by this method, and the scientists and doctors or dentists or garage owners, are you one of the successful ? or are you being lazy ?. if so, then put an end to this level of disorganisation, and get these done , NOW, not later....take a lesson from Churchill, ( the man, not the nodding dog in the insurance adverts), and get a sign made for your desk , it should read, "ACTION THIS DAY !" and then you  " JUST DO IT " as the Nike adverts say, there are reasons that  these themes keeps recurring in life, or are you not paying attention  ?........make your life happen by intent, not accident......
