  1. One of my children had that problem. I showed her that the problem wasn't lying at all, but more about trust. I had to emphasise that even little lies build up to big lies... and that because i know she will lie about things, I can't trust her. I can't trust that she is where she says she will be, so she can't go. I can't trust that what she says is true, so I don't believe her (even when I know it's true), I can't trust her word or actions at all. At first it's no big deal until she needed me to trust her. When I pointed out why I couldn't trust her, she set out to change my impression... thus she stopped lying. It took a while, but it was a life lesson well worth it.

Now my daughter can't tell a lie without her conscious eating her up because she's earned my trust, and it was so hard to get back that she doesn't want to risk losing it again.

  2. Are you giving her the chance to lie? For example - if she eats a piece of chocolate after you told her no and then you ask her "did you eat that chocolate?" you are giving her the option to lie, you should be like I saw you eat that piece of chocolate and now you will be put in time out or whatever. Children often lie because they believe they will be in a lot of trouble for what they have done, make it clear that she will be in more trouble if she lies. More details are really needed to give you any further advice.

  3. Start lying to her about random things. She'll get it.

  4. How old is this child?

  5. Well, I think you need to first figure out why she is lying.  What does she gain from it?  Are the lies generally leading to the same result?  Once you establish the why, then you can figure out how to stop the behavior.  Good luck.

  6. Catch her in the act. Worked incredibly effectively on me.

  7. Definitely don't start lying to her, that's an awful suggestion.  Always lead by example.  I would find some movies or books where people are caught lying and bad things happen, or fairy tales with that moral...I can't think of any on the spot...pinocchio...
