Okay my dog is having puppies?

Well my dog is having puppies and with her last litter when she started having them she had them back to back. This time is different, she will have a puppy and then about 45 min later she will have another one. Well the last one she had was almost two hours ago and no other puppies. She is still panting really heavy and pacing back and forth every once in a while. How long between puppies in normal? Should I be worried because it has been almost two hours? My neighbor who helped me last time is on her way home but she commutes and will be here in about an hour. Any info would be great thank you!

  1. Dont wait for your mentor to come home...  call your vet.  Another hour may be too late!

  2. I agree - it's time to head for the vet.  You'd rather be safe than sorry - a C- section may be required.  Best wishes for you and your dogs.

  3. I would be on my way to the vet too. If there is a puppy stuck you may well of lost your dam and any other remaining pups by the time the neighbour shows up. She may need a c-section to whelp any remaining pups.

    Good luck!

  4. Are you confident enough to feel to see if there is a puppy in the canal?  Has your vet ever taught you how to do that? She needs to be checked after two hours of inertia.  If you don't know how to do that, then take her now to see your vet.

And are you sure she has more?  Can you feel if she is clear yet? If you had an xray before labor you would know how many she is going to have.

For future reference, remember that NOTHING beats good prenatal care. You cannot leave a retained puppy because she will die and so will the puppies that are alive from sepsis.

  5. If we have 2 hrs of unproductive labor (panting, pacing, contractions and no pup) we load and go to the vet because I'd rather pay an unnecessary bill and have a live girl at the end of it than lose her to complications of a stuck puppy or uterine inertia

  6. defiantly go to the vet your dog and any remaining puppy's could be in grave danger..

  7. Didn't you bring her in for an ultrasound or x-ray to check on number of pups? Then you would know how many pups to expect.... anyway, i agree with everyone else. It's time for a trip to the vet BEFORE your "mentor" comes home.
