  1. Ok so I also just tryed out for the volleyball team at my school and luckily I made it, but I learned a lot just from the tryouts.

    -Serving:

You can serve either underhand or overhand. Usually you see profesional people serve overhand, but a lot of times you need to practicfe the overhand serve a whole lot before you're serving well, so a lot of times beginners serve underhand. I think its a whole lot easier. You hold the ball in one hand and try to make that arm just slightly bent. Hit with the other hand (right if you're a righty and vice versa) and you should be hitting the ball from underneath. DON'T THROW THE BALL UP BEFORE YOU HIT!

    -Spike:

The approach is really important. You take three running steps forward and on the last step you should be approaching the net and you want to jump down so that you're gathering all your momentum and then you can spring up and will be able to reach over the net.

    -Bump:

Your forearm should be facing straight up. Bend your knees because it will give you better mobility. You always want your shoulders squared with the ball. When the ball comes to you, get in position and when you hit the ball with your forearms push up with your legs also.

Setting is hard to explain so looks for it on the internet or something.

Hope this helped and if you can't understand it I'm just not that good at explaining this stuff and its easier to show.

    GOOD LUCK!!!

  2. serving... .

im asuming your right handed if not swich all this.. .have have the ball in your left hand and your left foot a lil infront of your right.. toss the ball as if you jus let it drop it would end up infront of your right foot.. when you toss (to your right) youll take a step with your left foot... hit the ball with the Palm of your right hand (swing your arm and dont jus stop the swing) and then dragg your right foot... if you Flip your wrist while you do that you will have the ball  curving down....  if you dont flip your wrist.. and dont fallow through with your swing, that is called a floater.. really hard to recive =D

Passing- right foot slightly infront of your left.. and apart from each other... jus have one hand in the other (both palm up.)make your thobms touch eachother... when you pass the ball... .flip your wrist downwards so your arm, will have a flat surfice.. if it hurts when you hit.. you did it right lol once you hit, take a small step with your right leg... in the direcion to your setter and jus guild the ball.....  and know you face the ball not your target... face where the ball is coming from and then hit it to your setter

setting- the hardest thing, and not everyone can do it.... you put your hands Over your forhead.. if you miss it, it should hit your forhead.. lol

right now, put your hands on your hips. slowly take them off with out moving the way your fingers are. lift it up to your forhead.. your you index finger and thom should look like  a triagle... thats how you sett. the ball should jus hit your 1st 3 fingers of each hand.. but really its HARD to write easier to show... and not something you need to know to make the team. usually there are only 2 setters on a team

most important thing you need to know, its have fun and show the coach you are willing to learn, and have a good attitude..

maybe this will be  better lol sorry if i confused you!

    GOOD LUCK!!!

  3. Good answers above here.  I just wanted to include a link with some diagrams.

  4. Well, you already got your question answered, but I just wanted to let you know that almost ALL coaches look for a great attitude. They would rather have someone who pumps up the team and could use a little help in volleyball, than someone negative and excellent at it. GOOD LUCK :]

  5. ok never played on a team but payed attention in gym

heres the easiest way to serve :

with one leg forward and bent..hold the ball in one hand..(just a little) right in front of you..arm almost straight!. with your other hand (right for righties..left for lefties) make a fist. put that arm back..then swing it forward to hit the ball in your hand. WITH UR FIST!! just hit the ball instead of the hand. that might hurt lol

here are the 2 types of hits: bunts and sets

its either called  a BUMP or BUNT (sry i 4got!) :

bend legs..keep apart. one slightly in fron t of the other.make a fist with ur left hand. wrap ur right hand around it. (so ur thumbs r right next to eachother.)when a ball comes...bunt it...keeping ur position.dont swing your arms way up though...just a litttle so u hit the ball.

    sett:

bend legs.. hands above u...sorta in front of u too...as if you were about to catch a basketball. when the ball comes to you..lift em up and hit the ball with ur fingers NOT UR PALMS!! coaches always hate that.

    good luck at  tryouts!!

    hope i helped! :))))

  6. It is difficult to explain as a text, but the best way is to find someone who has played vball and ask them to work with you.
