My due date is Sept 23rd.. I surfed the web for free samples of formula - now that they all came in I was wondering to myself is it okay to give your baby different brand of formulas?

I'm not saying mix half and half - I'm trying to get at..use one brand one feeding and then a different brand another feeding.

I'm comparing the ingredients and they all seem to match the same

  1. no it is not good to switch formula like that all the time, the baby will get used to one formula and it takes like a week to get used to a new one, they spit up a lot when you change formula and may have other issues with changing such as digestive issues.

all formula is not the same which is why some babies can tolerate some formula and others cannot, they all need to meet a standard for nutritional requirements that is the same but there are many different types of formula with different amounts of things in it.

my pediatrician has also said that you should not switch formula often.

  2. Im a father that worked and raised 5 babies and i remember the doctor tell us to only use 1 type of formala however by the time we had our 5th his oldest brother was 18 and have of what we were told to do with him had changed by the time our youngest came around  so i would concult your doctor to be sure

  3. They may be close to the same but mixing brands is not a good idea. They can get constipated, and badly upset stomaches. If you want to go from say Similac to Enfamil you have to step them into it slowly. The doctors will even tell you not to switch formulas, and only to stick with one unless it's not working, then they will tell you to try a new one. We had stomache problems with our lil girl when she was born and our doctor told us to try different formula's, but we had to step her into them otherwise she was hurting and in alot of pain. We finally found that Enfamil lower iron was best and stuck with it with no problems

    Good luck

  4. usually it's best to just stick with one brand so you know which one your baby can handle andd does better one

  5. well when i switched my baby to enfamil from similac when we came home from hospital , she had diarrhea and a  bad diaper rash for almost a week....so i don't know that  i would do that myself...if i had known i would have taken enfamil to hosp with me and started her on it from the beginning

  6. It depends on your baby. I have a friend who bought whatever was on sale for her twin boys - they never had problems with any of it. But my daughter has had bad reactions to a lot of formula. I still haven't found one that is good for her. I have TONS of samples too!!! I am so mad that I can't use them!

  7. my ped said to stick with the same brand untill my son was six months and then i can give him any kind,,,i switch between similac advance and enfamil lipil, pretty much whatever i have a coupon for and what ever is cheaper.....my son is 7 months now

  8. I was using Similac Advance and I just switched to Parent's Choice Organic which is $10 less per can and it is organic and my daughter showed no signs of knowing it was a different brand.

  9. Well, as long as your baby doesn't have any allergic reactions, or get bad gas, etc. from a formula, I don't think it would matter. Be sure to ask your pediatrician about this though!
