Alright so I'm getting a new horse in the next two months. But I am going back and forth between a Quarter horse and a Paint horse. I know that Quarter horses and Paint horses are basically the same but from former experience I want to know what show circuit is the funnest? I also love the Paint color and and markings. But I love some of the Quarter horse solids more... They are tied. I would even consider Pinto, but those are harder to find then a Paint and a Quarter horse. I want a western pleasure horse. Around 15hh. The coat color doesn't matter. I want a finished show horse. Help?

  1. The color and markings should be the absolute last on your shopping list. Buy the most talented, well trained, and personable horse. Then you can decide to love whatever color he may be.

  2. Where do you live?  A finished horse will cost more anywhere, and a finished show horse will cost even more.  How much more depends on its experience and points.  I don't know if you will find what you are looking for in your price range.  I will search in a few states and post back in a bit about what I find.

Wow, these are not as expensive as I thought they would be.  These are all in California, and with your basic specifications...though I did change the price to 8000 max.  You will be surprised how much people are willing to give you a deal if they know the horse is going to a good home.  Mine went from 5000 to 2800 - and someone else was offering the 5000.  If someone can see that the horse is going to a good forever home, they will usually choose that over someone else.

California is more expensive than most places (unfortunately for me!) so I will try Kansas...I have no idea what type of prices they have but it sounds like a place with low priced horses :)

Average price seems to be about 2000 in Kansas compared to California's 5000...So it really depends where you live, but it can be done.  As for the color, well, just choose the horse..You will come to love it whatever it is, spots or not.

    Best of luck

  3. I can see why youre going back and forth on either one. Did you try them out? If so, I would pick the one that feels more comfortable to you. Good luck!

  4. If you just want a finished show horse on that budget I would not be very picky about breed. I would go with a bay quarter horse personally but would find one that has some TB in it. You probably already know about HYPP but I would never get a horse that is positive. I know some positive horses live without a problem but I wouldnt take the risk or support a breeder of HYPP positive horses. Good Luck in your search

  5. i have a quarter horse paint. Why don't you go for that? His mom is full quarter horse and his dad is full paint. Sometimes the quarter horse/paints are solid other times they have markings. But i would do a mare between the ages of 5-10. Just so they are completely grown and bones are set good and have a stable temperment but arent to old. I would look at comformation and if they keep there head low. Personally i would look at reining horses. They do western pleasure amazingly and have a good head on them.

  6. well if you don't care about color then just get a horse that likes you and has the best mind set, and is something you can handle

i will say this though...paints do stand out in shows!

  7. Start trying out LOTS of horses- when you find the right horse you won't care if it is blue with white polka dots!  Get off the color issue & find a horse that you can partner with!

  8. 1. conformation. (it took this long for one person to mention this factor for a show horse? i wouldve thought it'd be mentioned by now.)

    2. every think of a qh/paint cross then go to either show circuit?

    3. as much as i say prices are down, a western pleasure fully finished show horses isnt something that will come down too much in priece.  it'll be harder to find, but not impossible, i suggest starting at show grounds.

    4. what show circuit is funnes is based on opinion, and those opinions offered may not be the same as what you find fun.

5.good luck, it's a start to know that much, just need to work alittle bit more on it.

  9. WOW, i have a horse to fit you. I have a horse named robinwoodslilskip. I have shown her at local circuits and she does better going western and no offense, its just WAY too slow for me. I am asking 5000. She is 15,2 and is a tobino paint horse. The judges love her unique white, brown coloring. (AWSOME BROWN HEAD) email me at gegie93@gmail.com for more details. i dont know where you live but i think she is just right for you... she also LOVES kids

  10. well dont decide til youve found a horse you like

go try both until you find the hrose whos presonality you like best, not breed, color markings, whatever

ps pintos are WAY more common then real paints
