Oklahoma City Thunder 47 vs. Miami Heat 54 – NBA Finals Game 1: Second Quarter Breakdown
After dominating the Oklahoma City Thunder in the first 12 minutes, Miami Heat made a fast start to the second quarter as well.
LeBron James, who had managed only four points in the first quarter, opened the second one with a bang. He scored 6 in a 10 point unanswered Miami run, to which the King provided an exclamation mark with a slam dunk. The burst
took Miami’s lead to 13 points at 37-24.
Serge Ibaka and Chris Bosh traded baskets on the next two possessions before Derek Fisher briefly took over. The veteran point guard who joined the Thunder during the midseason brought all of his championship experience to the
fore and made four quick points.
That seemed to wake up the Thunder. Westbrook finally made a shot for Thunder after that and James Harden also managed a three to bring his team within eight.
Shane Battier was hot for Miami however and he made a running layup to again make it a ten point game, 45-35.
Two Westbrook free throws later, Mario Chalmers answered with a deuce and Miami kept on leading by double figures until the last 1:31 of the half. Just like they did in the first quarter, Oklahoma City outscored Heat 6-2 to end
the frame and were trailing by 47-54 going into the locker room.
Dwyane Wade had another dismal first half for Miami. He managed only six points, with two of them coming in the second quarter. Wade did have six assists to his name however. LeBron seemed charged up early in the frame, but failed
to keep up his intensity afterwards. He made the last Miami shot in the half which came in the form of running bank jumper and ended it with 14 points.
The surprise package of the first half was Battier, who scored 13 points. Chalmers scored only two points in the period and ended the first 24 minutes with 10 points and 5 assists, while Chris Bosh had 5 of his 7 points coming
in the second quarter.
Kevin Durant disappeared in the frame, managing only two points. Serge Ibaka however had a good time with 8 points while Westbrook had 6.
