Oklahoma City Thunder edge past Golden State Warriors 115-114 in overtime
Oklahoma City Thunder posted their fourth straight win with a hard-fought 115-114 overtime victory over the Golden State Warriors at Oklahoma City Arena on Tuesday night.
Forward Kevin Durant scored a game-high 39 points, grabbed five assists and six rebounds for Oklahoma. Serge Ibaka played well as he contributed 19 points, eight rebounds and three blocks for the Thunder, who have won nine of their last 10 games.
Guard Russell Westbrook finished with 15 points, nine assists and eight rebounds for Oklahoma City, who are currently in fourth spot in the Western Conference. James Harden came off the bench with 14 points while centre Kendrick Perkins pulled down 13 rebounds
in the victory.
Guard Stephen Curry scored a team-high 35 points, five assists and six rebounds for Golden State. Forward-centre David Lee chipped in with 24 points, 15 rebounds and four assists for the Warriors, who have lost seven of their last 10 games.
Monta Ellis had 20 points and 11 rebounds while Reggie Williams ended with 10 points in the defeat. The Warriors held a 29-25 lead at the end of first quarter and maintained an eight-point lead at 58-50 going into half time.
Golden State got themselves back into the game in the third quarter, as they cut the first half deficit to 78-77 heading into the final stanza. The Thunder held a 94-85 lead early in the fourth quarter, but Golden State turned it on down the stretch.
Two consecutive free throws from Westbrook made it a 106-100 game with just 13 seconds left. However, Williams and Ellis hit three-pointers in the dying seconds to send the game into overtime.
The Warriors carried a 111-109 lead early in the extra period but a pair of free throws from Durant tied the game at 114 with 48 seconds left. Westbrook’s free throw at the buzzer was enough to propel the Thunder to their 49th victory of the season.
Sacramento Kings hold on for narrow 116-113 win over Phoenix Suns
The Sacramento Kings extended their winning streak to four games by overcoming the Phoenix Suns 116-113 at Power Balance Pavilion on Tuesday night.
Marcus Thornton played like an MVP as he scored 24 points and tied a career-high with 11 rebounds for Sacramento. Guard Beno Udrih tallied 19 points while forward Donte Greene came off the bench with 18 points in the victory. Forward-centre Channing Frye
and guard-forward Jared Dudley had 21 points apiece in the defeat.
Marcin Gortat finished with 17 points and 11 rebounds, while Steve Nash added 13 points and 14 assists for the Suns, who are four and half game behind eighth-place Memphis Grizzlies in the Western Conference.
Phoenix controlled the opening quarter, leading by as many as seven points and took a 34-30 lead into the second. The Suns carried a 61-59 advantage into the locker room.
The Suns got it going offensively in the third quarter and held a 93-85 edge heading into the final stanza. Phoenix’s extended their lead to nine points on Josh Childress’ driving dunk shot that made it 102-93 with less than nine minutes remaining in the
quarter. The Kings then went on a 9-0 run to tie the contest at 102.
The Suns were able to keep the game close throughout the final quarter but Thornton's free throws and three-point conversion with 53 seconds gave the Suns a decisive 116-110 advantage. Frye had three free throws in the closing seconds but the deficit was
too much to trim.
