Oklahoma City Thunder centre Kendrick Perkins Arrested for Public Misdemeanour – NBA Update
Oklahoma City Thunder centre, Kendrick Perkins, was arrested on Saturday for allegedly trying to fight the manager of a nightclub. It is reported that Perkins was partying late into the night with his friends and was under the influence of a high amount of alcohol.
Kendrick was charged with the transgression of the law in terms of excessive drinking and unruly behaviour. The police reached the scene and stated that around 50 odd people were gathered around Perkins who was hurling profanities at the manager.
It is also reported that the 6 ft 10 in centre tried to pick up more fights as he was being taken away from the scene. “He got drunk and wanted to fight everybody,” Police Sergeant Marc Levy said.
Levy also explained that Kendrick’s friends tried to calm the big man down but he refused to listen to anybody. The effects of intoxication were so strong that he was unable to control his rage. “He was his own worst enemy,” Levy said.
Perkins was arrested and taken to the local Police station. He was released at around 4:00 in morning the after he posted a bond worth $150. The offense has been classified as a class C transgression and the former Celtics’ man could face upto $500 in fines.
“It does not appear anyone was hurt and Perkins did not resist arrest”, he said. “The charges are minor and rise only to the level of a misdemeanour.”
It was a troubled week for the big centre, as a day before his arrest; as it was reported that Perkins might have been involved in a confrontation with another man at Stephen Jackson’s home. A man in his late twenties was taken to the hospital and treated for small injuries.
This incident meant that Perkins was not able to attend the charity game scheduled to take place at his ongoing basketball camp. The main reason cited by Perkins’ spokesman was his need to rest, as dictated by the doctors. He was also unable to attend the banquet marking the end of the camp.
This was Kendrick Perkins’ first run in with the law. Other than this incident the big man has had a clean slate in terms of the violation of the law.
Recent developments have also stated that Perkins’ good friend and former teammate, Rajon Rondo, was also invited to the celebrity game. Other reports have claimed that Rondo was amongst the group of friends present with Perkins at the club. However, such reports are unsubstantiated as of yet.
