Oklahoma City Thunder coach Scott Brooks hopeful for a new contract soon – NBA Update
After leading the Oklahoma City Thunder from being a bottom of the league team to genuine title contenders over the course of four years, Scott Brooks has been a huge factor in the team`s success so far.
Now with his contract expiring at the end of the month, re-signing his services is going to be one of the top priorities for the Thunder management. Brooks recently opened up on the issue;
“I'm sure in the next couple of days we will sit down and get together. Definitely, I wish I was preparing or just finishing up practice going into Game 6," Brooks said. "You definitely need a few days just to reflect on what we've
done this year. But the next couple of days, we plan on getting together."
When you keep a same group of players playing under the same coaching staff for so many years, a certain kind of relationship is formed and the team starts to look at each other like family. The success that comes along is one
of the benefits and OKC has seen quite of it this season.
Ever since the franchise decided to move to Oklahoma City from Seattle, the management opted to trust their then assistant coach Brooks by promoting him to up to head coaching position.
In the span of these four years, Thunder have constantly been on the rise. From being a team which only won 23 games in their first season, OKC returned back strongly the next year and made it to the first round of the playoffs,
only to be knocked out by the Los Angeles Lakers.
They returned back the next season with a lot more hunger and desire and made it to the Western Conference Finals, only to be defeated by the eventual champions Dallas Mavericks. This year, Thunder went a step further and won the
Western Conference.
Despite getting hammered by Miami Heat 4-1 to lose in their first ever trip to the Finals, OKC have established themselves as title contenders. They have grown as a team and the poise displayed in their on-court performances is
merely an image of Brooks’s mentality.
Thunder`s success so far has largely been due to the fact that they have been able to keep most of their personal intact over time. Now with several players due on their contract extensions, re-signing Brooks onto a long term contract
will set the tone for the organization, one that says that OKC wants to come back even stronger next year.
