Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant having a ball during the NBA lockout
While most NBA players have been quite worried during the NBA lockout, fearing for next season and perhaps their pay checks, others have been working hard in the gym or trying to recuperate from injuries.
One man though seems to be having quite a lot of fun.
Kevin Durant, the two-time NBA reigning scoring champion, has been in the spotlight all summer long and the lean forward is having a ball. Whether it is heading out on exhibition games abroad, signing autographs for kids at home
or lighting up pro-am games with some thrilling displays, Durant has been an ever present in the lockout.
The forward sat down with Sports Illustrated to talk about the summer and look back on how surprisingly exciting it has been.
“It's been a little nerve-racking to be honest, just not knowing when you're going to start up again. But on the other side of it, it has been really fun, just going around to every different place and playing ball, something I
love doing. Meeting a lot of different people. It's just funny to me that a lot of people are watching, you know what I mean? I've met guys from Chris Brown to Drake to just anybody walking on the street.” Durant said.
Durant has been in stunning form throughout the offseason. The man who was the focal point of the Oklahoma City Thunder’s superb playoff run last season has shown no signs of slowing down when the league is in recess.
Instead, Durant just seems to be getting better. He has played a part in many pro-am leagues this summer and has almost been a permanent fixture in the high profile inter-league games. To cap it off, the OKC star has almost been
unstoppable in all of them.
The forward though is not focused completely on having a good time. Like other NBA players, he has hit the gym regularly during the lockout and is planning ahead as well. He has focused a little more on the games than perhaps some
other NBA stars have, but Durant is convinced that is just to get in better shape and improve as a player during the offseason.
“That's what this is all about. That's what you use those games for is to get better. So I've had a good summer.” He said.
Kevin is using the offseason games to hone his skills and get ready for whenever the real thing begins. The Oklahoma City Thunder star had his first real taste of success last season by reaching the Western Conference Finals. His
team did lose out to eventual NBA World Champions, the Dallas Mavericks, but Kevin showed more than enough to convince everyone he will be back next year
