Oklahoma City Thunder looking to do what has never been done before in NBA history – NBA Feature
As the Oklahoma City Thunder took to the court for their practice session here at the American Airlines Arena on Wednesday, the team looked disappointed at the events of the previous night and the state they
have dug themselves into.
After winning Game 1 of the NBA Finals at home, the Oklahoma City Thunder have lost three straight games to the Miami Heat and are now facing the end of the road in Game 5. If they lose, they go home with the
disappointment of knowing they were as close as one can be to winning an NBA championship.
The more disappointing fact is that in all three games that the Thunder have lost, they had a chance to win the game but could not close well and missed one opportunity after another. In Game 4, the Thunder had
a two point lead with a few minutes to go in the game but lost by 6 at the end.
Now the Thunder face the insurmountable task of climbing out of a 3-1 deficit to win the NBA championship. No team has been able to do so in NBA history. Since 1985, thirteen teams have attempted to win the NBA
Finals after trailing 1-3, and 13 have failed.
It has never been done in history.
All the analysts, commentators and columnists have hung up their pens saying that the series is a wrap now. But there is one group of people who refuse to believe so, and that is the Oklahoma City Thunder.
“We know that it's a new day and anything can happen. It's not over. You got to keep fighting and we're going to fight to the end no matter what. That's the type of DNA we have here. That's Oklahoma City as a
city, Oklahoma as a state and the Thunder as a team. We're going to fight to the end.”
Everyone in the Thunder locker room realizes that a daunting task lies ahead of them if they want to win the NBA championship. But if they can win Game 5 on Thursday night and extend the series, they will move
back to Chesapeake Energy Arena for the remaining two games. Playing at home would be a different thing altogether and might provide them with enough motivation to do what has never been done before.
It is all about Game 5 for the Thunder. If they win; they get a chance to extend the series at home. They lose and it’s all over.
“It's not about numbers. It's about how hard you're willing to work, how much heart and desire you put forth and how you do it together collectively as a team. We have a group of guys that do that night in and
night out,” said Thunder coach Scott Brooks.
The Thunder will get the opportunity to show their heart, determination and resolve when they take the court on Thursday night at the American Airlines Arena, fighting to save their season in hostile territory
and only a win away from playing the next two at home.
