The best shot blocker in the league wants to work his way to success and stay committed to Oklahoma City Thunder....
Both Oklahoma City Thunder and Serge Ibaka have grown over the years with steady improvements coming along every season.
In the franchises' four year history, the team has improved from the previous season in every step of the way and Ibaka has been one of the key figures responsible for the success over that time.
From making a three minute debut against the Detroit Pistons to being one of the best shot blockers currently playing in the NBA, success has been a constant part of Ibaka’s career. And the journey for both OKC and the Spanish
international will continue as general manager Sam Presti and head coach Scott Brooks announced a contract extension for the 22 year old on Monday.
Ibaka was also present at the occasion and reflected back on his journey;
“When I got here in the NBA, I was thinking my first year, the most important thing is to stay with this team after my rookie year,” Ibaka said. “We started this way together, we’ve come a long way. My teammates, my coaches, all
the staff, the organization, everybody. For me I was thinking it was important for me to stay and finish what we started.”
Ibaka has gone about his routine in a very professional manner and is known for his high work ethic and the business mentality he brings even to practice courts. It has been this approach which has reaped benefits for Ibaka.
From not making it to the playoffs in their first season together, OKC made it to the playoffs in the next before finally making it to the conference finals in 2010-11 season. Last time around, the team conquered the West before
being thrashed by Miami Heat in the NBA Finals.
The details of the new contract have not been revealed but Ibaka is going to be around in Oklahoma City for a while.
So what is next for the Spanish international? Well for starters, Ibaka wants to be there for his team in every possible manner.
“First of all I will just keep working hard and getting better,” Ibaka said. “It starts with whatever my team needs from me.”
This can really be start of something special for OKC, and the only player Presti and company needs to go after now is James Harden.
