Oklahoma City Thunder wins 124-117 against Washington Wizards
Oklahoma City Thunder hosted the Washington Wizards in another one of Friday’s games. The match was played at the OKC Arena with a capacity crowd coming to witness the match. Oklahoma City was looking to come up with a win after they lost their previous
game.
Recently, Oklahoma City Thunder has been involved in a lot of matches which had to be decided in overtime. This was no different game which took period extra quarter to be decided. At the end of the match, Oklahoma City Thunder managed to win the match 124-117.
Washington Wizards aren’t in such a good position in the Eastern Conference but they gave Oklahoma a very tough time. Washington Wizards made s superb start to the match as they came up with a very strong offence, much to the surprise of Oklahoma City Thunder.
Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook took some time before they got Thunder back on road and scoring points. Despite, the late comeback by Thunder in the first quarter, Washington Wizards opened up an eight point gap. During the course of the quarter, Wizards
scored 29 points while Thunder could only come up with 21 points.
The Wizards defence was very strong for most of the first quarter but as the quarter neared its end they couldn’t handle the pressure and crumbled as a result enabling the Thunders to score a few easy points at the end.
The second was different and Oklahoma City Thunder came out with a mission and turned the tables. With some strong quick passing and strong driving in, Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook helped the Oklahoma City Thunder to crawl their way back into the back.
The quarter proved to be very productive for Oklahoma City Thunder as they scored 35 points and the defence also did a splendid job restricting the opposition to 23 points only. This left Oklahoma City Thunder leading 56-52 at the end of the second quarter.
Oklahoma City Thunder fans were confident of a win as the teams went into the halftime break.
However, things turned out to be quite the opposite. Wizards again outsmarted the Thunder changing their strategy and scoring quite a few points in the quarter. Oklahoma City Thunder tried to come back with some strong attacks but again this backfired as
they were regularly caught on the counter attacks.
During the quarter, Washington Wizards took the lead once again scoring 28 points in the quarter while Oklahoma City Thunder scored 19 points. The scores at the end of the quarter were 80-75 in favour of the Washington Wizards.
The final quarter turned out to be a very hard fought contest which saw both teams battling hard to come out on top in the end. Both teams worked very hard but Oklahoma City managed to score 28 points in the quarter compared to 23 points of Wizards. This
levelled the scores at the end of the regulation time on 103-103.
Therefore, the match went into overtime to be decided where the first overtime saw both teams scoring 7 points each. The match went into second overtime as a result where Oklahoma City Thunder took pace and scored 14 points with Wizards scoring just 7. This
effectively won the match 124-117 for Oklahoma City Thunder in the end.
Kevin Durant finished his night with 40 points while Russell Westbrook scored 35 points for Oklahoma City Thunder. Nick Young was the top scorer for the Washington Wizards with 32 points to his name.
