Oksana Khrul earns Women’s 50m butterfly gold – 2012 Paralympic Games
Oksana Khrul of Ukraine earned gold medal of the Women’s 50m butterfly in S6 category on day nine of the swimming events at the 2012 London Paralympic Games in Aquatics Centre on Friday, September 7.
The Ukrainian swimmer astonished the crowd with her marvellous form in the one-lap butterfly discipline, where she not only proved her eligibility for the crown but also improved the world record of the race.
With her immaculate efforts, Khrul remained more than one and a half body length away from her following swimmer and touched the wall with a timing of 36.05 seconds for gold medal.
Her gold finish remained 1.60 seconds away from Dong Lu of China, who proved her mettle for silver medal of the race by touching the wall with a timing of 37.65 seconds.
Lu was chased by Fuying Jiang of China, who stayed nearly 1.60 seconds apart and finished her race in third best place by submitting a time of 39.26 seconds.
Fourth finest spot of the race was obtained by Olena Fedota of Ukraine, who stayed 0.48 seconds away from the third position holder and tapped the wall with a timing of 39.74 seconds.
Subsequently, Fedota was traced by Inbal Ganapol Shwartz of Israel, who suffered a loss of only 0.15 seconds from her foregoing finisher and reported a time of 39.89 seconds for fifth position.
Shwartz was followed by Sarah Rose of Australia, who was 0.54 seconds away from her preceding swimmer and touched the wall with a timing of 40.43 seconds.
Rose was traced by Anastasia Diodorova of Russia, who was only 0.04 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and finished her race in seventh place by producing a time of 40.47 seconds.
The Russian swimmer was followed by Ozlem Baykiz of Turkey, who tried hard to improve her position but failed to do so. Baykiz remained 2.44 seconds slower from her preceding swimmer and clocked an effort of 42.91 seconds for eighth position.
Khrul was pleased with her achievement in the butterfly discipline and stated that she would try her best to continue the same in future.
