Ola Afolabi finally takes on Marco Huck to avenge his former loss in a title bout – Boxing News
Ola Afolabi, the former WBO intercontinental cruiserweight champion, will take on his most-awaited arch rival, Marco Huck, the current WBO cruiserweight champion, in a 12-round skirmish, to avenge his former loss and to grab Huck’s gold, on May 5, 2012.
The ring for the epic battle will be stretched at Messehalle situated in Erfurt, Thuringen, Germany and the event will be organised and promoted by the duo of Wilfried Sauerland of Sauerland Event and Ulf Steinforth of Sport Events Steinforth.
The above two top ranked cruiserweight’s will headline the Saturday night show whereas the bout between Alexander Dimitrenko and Kubrat Pulev with the vacant EBU (European) heavyweight title up for grabs will co-headline the night.
In a recent short interview after reaching Germany, Ola, 32, exhibited his sheer determination to settle the 2 and a half year old feud. Ola, who collided with Marco in 2009, collected a unanimous decision loss by just an inch in the 12-round titled encounter.
At that very moment, all the critics were unanimous that Ola was too close in nailing the German Marco, had he placed a bit more well-targeted jabs. Since then, Ola, infamous as the ‘Kryptonite’, was eye-balling Huck and called him on several times but the
latter evaded the former in one way or another.
Ola has been in a total 24 bouts and emerged victorious in 19. He has collected just two losses in his career, one against Allan Green and the other from the jabs of Marco Huck. The Briton number one’s challenger, Marco, on the other hand, has been in a
total 36 skirmishes.
The German number one, Huck, has emerged victorious in 34 bouts and nailed 25 of his opponents by knockout. After the Ola clash the 27-year-old, continued his epic title defence win streak and nailed seven contenders authoritatively.
Marco, who had just one loss in his resume before the Alexander Povetkin clash, was confident that he can make a brilliant and striking entrance in the heavyweight division by taking on Alexander.
Things did not go well and Marco collected his career’s second defeat eventually announcing that he will not forfeit his gold and will stay at the cruiserweight decision.
Ola, on his arrival at Germany said, “I have waited for this fight for the last 2.5 years. Huck has done everything possible to avoid fighting me again, he even moved to heavyweight to delay this fight. This time, I will not leave any doubt and I will become
WBO cruiserweight champion.”
Ola will strive hard to avenge his previous loss since he has been claiming that he was the one who should have been denoted the winner. Huck, on the other hand, is in dire need to overcome the Povetkin loss to continue his ruthless barrage.
