Olazabal and Molinari will feel good going into the Ryder Cup
European Ryder Cup captain, Jose Maria Olazabal, and Francesco Molinari must be extremely happy after their fourth round’s performance at the BMW Italian Open.
Overall, Jose Maria Olazabal and Francesco Molinari did not have a good outing in Turin.
However, they will feel good going in to the Ryder Cup. Both of them shot a magnificent fourth round of 65. The interesting thing is that the Spaniard and the Italian, both, matched their third round scores as well.
A positive sign, especially for Molinari is that, after shooting four-over in the third round, he came up with a stunning 7-under, 65 in the fourth round at the Italian Open.
Molinari, who was playing in front of his home crowd, did not get going early in the tournament. His first two rounds were pretty average, considering the scores other players were shooting. Moreover, he completely messed up the third round.
However, in fourth, he made amendments to counter his dismissal third round performance, by shooting eight birdies, although he struck a bogey as well.
Over all, it was a commanding performance by the Italian, who now resides in London. Molinari ended his Italian Open with an average score of 10-under.
Olazabal bogeyed the first hole but he immediately made amendments by shooting three consecutive birdies. The Spaniard, too, shot eight birdies and finished the tournament with an overall score of 7-under.
These are good signs for the Europeans, as they head to face the ever determined team of USA, in the Ryder Cup, at Chicago.
Martin Kaymer looks to be back in form, as he contended for the Italian Open on Sunday. The Belgium born, Nicolas Colsaerts is also is in good shape and he, too, is tied at the 8th spot, along with the German, Kaymer, at 13-under.
Another plus for the Europeans is that Rory McIlroy is in sublime form in the playoffs. This gives the Europeans an advantage, as he is beating the likes of Tiger Woods, on the American soil.
Lee Westwood looked to be back in form too, as he finished inside the top 3 at the BMW Championship in the FedEx Cup playoffs.
Meanwhile, a probable future European Ryder Cup Captain Colin Montgomerie missed the cut in Turin.
