Old Acer laptop.Sound has gone, but works in headphones. Any ideas?

Sometimes it works, but 99% it does not. Fully cleaned and defraged all the time.

go to cnet.com/downloads and download AC 97 drivers,,,most laptops use this and you appear to have lost yours,,,,its a freebee

This happened to me  its really annoying!!    go back to the place you bought it from and tell them. if its still under warrenty they will fix it for free if not you will have to pay!!
