Old Canon Flash on New Rebel XSi...?

Can I use a Speedlite 199A on a rebel XSi with out fears of any electrical feedback to the Rebel? I havd heard of soem of the older flashes sending back jolts in reverse which can fry the camera's

  1. It has to do with what is called trigger voltage ... all the digital EOS cameras are limited to 6v.  Many older flash units can put out over 200v and that would fry your camera.

    Call Canon USA's free help line, (800) OK-CANON and they can help you figure it out ...

    Even if the 199A is safe, you will be losing all the features that Canon built into the camera to communicate with their newer digitally optimized and dedicated flash units.
