I have an old surround sound system that came with my dvd player. There's a Subwoofer, one middle speaker, 2 side speakers, and 2 smaller speakers which all go through the subwoofer. The subwoofer connects to the DVD player with 3 sets of red and white cables (6 holes on back of DVD and Subwoofer) I want to get a new DVD player, but don't know what this set-up is called and what to look for when buying a compaitable DVD Player??

  1. It's called a 5.1 system.

They will know what this is when you go to shop.

Take a look at this Jack.

As I said you need a DVD player with 5.1 sound output.

  2. all of them will be compatible it is called standardisation

  3. The red and white cables are audio left and right rca. Every dvd player made has these cables as an option for audio out. So any dvd player will be compatible with your surround sound.
