Old Evinrude question?

I was just given a really old (1956) 15 HP Evinrude from my uncle. It hasnt been started in 15 years, but its been in a garage the whole time. Starting it isnt my main problem...i think i can get it going.

The motor does not come with connectors to hook up an external gas tank up to, will I still be able to buy the connectors for this motor? From what i've seen, its a 3 prong connector but im not sure. Thanks.

  1. Yuo may be able to find the fittings, even if you dont locate new ones in your area you can replace the o-rings in an old set. You can not just hook up a modern fitting to this motor because they did not have a fuel pump, they relied on the second line to the tank to carry air pressure to the tank to push fuel to the carb in the other line. Just take the time to find the correct parts, they can be modified to a fuel pump and new style fitting but it is not recommended procedure.  15 years and no start? Have the carb cleaned and the water pump impeller replaced.

  2. Just change the hose connection to a modern single hose type.

Back in 1956 they had two hoses, but changed to a single one around 1960.

I remember the double hoses well, but have not seen one in many years.

  3. you can definately still get the gas lines, and connectors. no big deal.  check with anyy local marine store. if you cannot find one i know a place around my way(fl) that will ship parts.

15 yrs no start may run you around some, but be thourough and you will get through it.

  4. I dont like your chances getting them in a servicable condition but you should be able to fit /adapt the newer type

    to work just as well

    goodluck
