Question:

Old Fighters versus New Fighters?

It's hypothetical! Stop getting mad about it! Tyson versus Dempsey. Louis versus Ali. Jack Johnson versus Marciano. Anybody versus anybody! Yahoo Answers is a forum to express your opinions and everyones answer is welcome as long as you respect the forum guidelines and hopefully the other opinions. Why do some of you who think you are the only one with a decent answer trash other answers? There are some rude people and some of you are incredibly ignorant but all of you are welcome to share your thoughts on how you feel. Who really thinks the older fighters would beat the new fighters just because they had heart or stamina? Come on people! They fought with the marquis of queensbury rules. They fought standing toe to toe trading punches as if they were going to have a spot of tea and discuss the weather afterward. Yes they were great fighters who fought as many as 50 to 200 rounds (stamina!) in those days but if you fought like that today you would get killed! Talk to me!

  1. I AGREE THAT IT IS ONLY OPINION HOWEVER THE MORE THOUGHT OR LOGIC THAT GOES INTO AN ANSWER THE MORE VALID IT IS.

I have loved sports since childhood. I lived across the street from a playground. At the playground and barbershop we argued and discussed who was the best. People that used logic and facts were looked on as more knowledgeable and were deemed as good/great.

  2. Tyson ("in his youth") couldn't even beat 'Buster' Douglas. 'Gentleman' Jim Corbett, Jack Johnson, The Manassas Mauler, Joe Louis, Rocky Marciano, and, Muhammad Ali, would have obliterated Tyson. This is a respectfully-extended opinion ('pedestrian' as it may be) and I agree with you, that, the likes of Don King and Robyn (or Robin) Givens, managed to stifle and erode the God-'given' (no pun intended!) talents of Iron Mike. He, in turn, forgot, that, when a lady says no, she means no, and, ended up a nothing. What, a, pity.

  3. i enjoy the "what if" questions, and it is only opinion....however some of the questions are silly, and some seem obvious to some one way and obvious to others the opposite way. you think tyson would have beaten dempsey, fair enough, that is your opinion and i respect it even if i don't agree with it.

but tyson threw away his talents and did not have dempsey's discipline, and he could've been so much more....he also got frustrated when faced with an opponent who was not intimidated by him, while dempsey came back from knock downs and being knocked through the ropes.....that is what those of us who pick dempsey take in to consideration when answering that particular question.
