Old Fort Slippy starts off the year with a victory in the William Hill Hotbox Stakes on 4th January
On 4th January, the Grade A1 William Hill Hotbox Bet Stakes was held at Newcastle, over a distance of 480 metres and offered a prize money of £118.
The prize money and the title were taken by J Fenwick trained, Old Fort Slippy. The daughter of Daves Mentor out of Pauls Cait born in May 2009 soon led after leaving the second stall and made it to the wire in 29.20 seconds. The winner was a 5 to
2 joint favourite, and led the runner up by a length when crossing the wire.
Following in the tracks was the other 5 to 2 joint favourite of the race, Droopys Gianni, who found the track wide open and ran on for the wire, taking 29.28 seconds to cover the track distance. The runner up was conditioned by trainer J Wright.
Securing the third place after the winner of the race was J Fenwick’s other entry in the race, Fagans Legend, who broke from the fifth gate and made it to the other side of the wire in 29.56 seconds.
Nanis Rocket, under S Ray’s charge took 29.88 seconds to finish the race, and was soon followed in by P Rutherford trained, Ultra Jerry Cool, who rushed through the wire in 30.00 seconds flat. The last hound to leave the track was, Anfi Belle, who
clocked the distance in 30.08 seconds.
Old Fort Slippy hit a hat-trick through 10th November to 19th November by winning the three races that fell in between at Newcastle. She won the Grade A3 Williamhill.com Stakes on 10th November
at Newcastle followed by a win in the Grade A2 Williamhill.com Stakes at Newcastle on 16th November.
The hat-trick race for, Old Fort Slippy, was the Grade A1 Williamhill.con Stakes on 19th November at Newcastle. She did not win any of the next two races that she participated in. She first came sixth at Sunderland on 29th November
and then third at Newcastle on 22nd December.
The victory at Newcastle on 4th January turned out to be her first victory at the beginning of the New Year, and has opened up further hopes for the hound’s glorious year ahead.
