Old Navy Outlet being "skittery"?

Three times now, i have shopped at Old Navy and Banana Repulic Outlet store and upon checkout they have misleading items!!! You purchase a shirt or belt from racks and they tell you , NO that was a GAP belt and its not the same price as whats on the table. My little boy pointed out that he dug and dug for the belt and it said ALL BELTS on table 49c and they charged 3.00. They said "the GAP belts are excluded. Then the same with the shirts...it was supposed to be 3.00 and they charged me 10.00 !!! I mean i could go to Kmart and get the same shirt for less!!! Ridiculous. Anyone have the same experience?

  1. First of all, there is no such thing as Old Navy Outlets anymore - they were all converted to regular Old Navy stores back in October 2007, so please be aware of where you are shopping.

Second, an Old Navy store or a Banana Republic store does NOT sell anything with the GAP name on it.  Even though they are all owned by Gap Inc, they sell their own brand and that's it.

Third, if you are shopping at Old Navy, you need to learn to read the signs for things that are on sale, because the sale price is dependent on the regular price.

Example.  The sign says "Cargo Shorts NOW $12 (reg. $14.50)" ... then if there are cargos near that sign that are reg. price $19.50, they are NOT $12.   The store does its best to move items not on sale, but we are given merchandising guidelines from corporate, and depening on the layout and size of the store, most of the stores follow these guidelines to a tee.

Any signs in the clearance area say "priced as marked, select styles only".  Messy customers always leave stuff where it doesnt belong and it is impossible for the staff to go around moving every little piece that ended up somewhere else.  If you find something in the clearance section that is not marked with an orange or red sticker, then it is likely that item is NOT on sale (unless there are lots of the exact same item that are marked and 1 or 2 units got overlooked in the markdown process).

  2. Actually I worked for Old Navy outlet and our store was closed down last year like all the rest and turned into a regular Old Navy. Sorry we also can't sell anything gap because it does not even register in our computers.

  3. If a customer replaced a belt there that isn't part of sale, then store has responsibility of removing said item. They also have to post sign saying that a certain brand is not on sale. If it was advertised in paper\flyer it has to be printed on said advertisement.

Your best bet is to report them to BBB. Sounds like store employees aren't doing their job of inspecting sales table for items not belonging. Report to home company too. Because it was underneath majority of belts, it should have been sold as sale item or they should have removed it.

I wouldn't have purchased it, asked to talk to manager and politely asked for customer support number of home office. If they refused to give it, I would report it to BBB, refused to shop there and let home office know.
