Question:

Old Root Canal Tooth is Bleeding!!!?

by  |  earlier

I had a root canal done about 10yr ago, and the tooth is bleeding periodically. It's not gushing blood, and there's no pain, but I'd like to stop it, if possible. Any suggestions of ointments or such that I can put on it, or any mouthwashes I can use?

  1. I think Elizabeth is right, it'll probably end up being a periodontal issue. (gum disease) Does it bleed when you floss? If yes then it probably is that.

Schedule an appointment for a cleaning. That should help you.

  2. Rinse your mouth with warm salt water several times a day. Salt will dry up the wound and prevent infection.

  3. Is the tooth bleeding or is the blood coming from the gums? I would recommend you schedule a visit to your dentist. When was the last time you had your teeth cleaned by a hygienist? Perhaps you have some problems with the gums and not the tooth itself, but your dentist can take some radiographs and let you know if anything is going on in the bone. Perhaps the tooth needs retreatment or perhaps you have some periodontal problems arising. Whatever the issue they can help pinpoint the root cause of the bleeding, which is not normal. Good luck!
