Old Upright Kenmore Freezer Help , please

I've just inherited an old 7. cu ft Kenmore Freezer. It must be about 20 years old and I haven't plugged it in yet. The door squeaks and yowls like a horror movie! I tried WD40 and Pam but so far no luck. It has one movable shelf and two that have the coils running through. Can I place food on the coiled shelves?If it starts OK, what are the warning signs pointing toward imminent death?As it's a freebie I want to give it a chance. Any particular tips to keep it happy?The first model numbers are C675 then a string of long numbers
